Disney+ was launched in 2019 is promised to be one of the biggest franchises with the biggest stars; there were many discussions about the MCU and Star Wars translation into the small screen that the audience will like. Ever since Disney+ purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, they have created many Star Wars content. The Mandalorian united the Star Wars audience for the 1st time since 2016. Both Falcon & The Winter Solider and WandaVison were excellent successes for MCU.
In 2020, many projects in The Mandalorian wake were announced. Now Disney is coming up with more TV content set within the Star Wars universe. Some of the projects have been in the pipeline for years, but others came as a surprise. The Mandalorian serves as the foundation for a connected series of upcoming spinoffs such as Rangers of the New Republic, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett. In his limited series, Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lando Calrissian from Solo and Cassian Andor from Rogue One will have their own respective time in the spotlight.
Upcoming Star Wars Disney+ Projects –
Star Wars: Visions – It is an upcoming animated anthology television series coming up in Disney+. The initial release will see from various Japanese animation studios nine anime-inspired original short films. And this will give a different cultural perspective to Star Warts. The world’s best anime creators will be part of the series. The series will release on September 22, 2021.
Obi-Wan Kenobi – It is an upcoming American limited series in Disney+ and will feature the Star Wars character of the same name. The series is set 10 years after the Revenge of the Sith (2005) and will have six episodes. Directed by Deborah Chow and written by Joby Harold. Ewan McGregor will be seen playing the title character and will also be the executive producer for the series. He will reprise the role for the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Hayden Christensen will also be seen playing the role of Darth Vader. The shooting began in April 2021 in Los Angeles. The additional cast was announced in March 2021. The series is scheduled to release in 2022.
The Mandalorian Season 3 – It is an upcoming series coming up in Disney+. As per sources, the series will begin its production after The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian was a huge success, and the audience liked the season 1 and 2. Now going ahead with success, there will be another outing for Din Djarin and Baby Yoda. As per speculations, season 3 will address the Darksaber debate between Bo-Katan Kryze and Din Djarin. The series should update the audience on Baby Yoda’s training with Luke Skywalker. It is still unclear if this season will bring back familiar elements from the various corners of the Stars Wars canon. It is scheduled to release in 2022.
Rangers Of The New Republic – It is an upcoming live-action TV series coming up in Disney+. The series was announced in December 2020 and produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. The series will culminate in a crossover event with Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Book Of Boba Fett. The series will lay across with future stories and lead into a climactic story event. It is expected that Trapper Wolf (Filoni) and X-wing pilots Carson Teva (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) will appear in the series. The series was announced in February 2020. It is expected that the series will release in 2022, but no confirmation is there so far.
Lando – It will be an upcoming series coming up in Disney+. The story is developed by Justin Simien which was announced in December 2020. Lando Calrissian was a natural-born survivor with a habit of landing on his feet. As per speculations, the series will potentially utilize both the Glover and Williams incarnations in dual timelines. The series is in the early stages of development. No details have been announced about the upcoming series, including the cast and crew. The date of release has not been announced yet.
The Book Of Boba Fett – A part of the Star Wars franchise, an upcoming American TV series in Disney+. A spinoff from the series The Mandalorian featuring the bounty hunter Boba Fett from the series. The series takes place alongside Ahsoka. Temuera Morrison will play Boba Fett, and Ming-Na Wen will play fennec Shand. Both will be seen in their previous roles from The Mandalorian and other previous Star Wars media. The series was officially announced in December 2020. The series will pick up directly where The Mandalorian ended. This means that characters from the series will likely make an appearance. The filming of the series ended in June 2021 and is set to release in December 2021.
Andor – It is an upcoming American TV series coming up in Disney+ and created by Tony Gilroy. This series is a prequel to the Star Wars film Rogue One (2016) and will have 12 episodes. Andor will follow the character Cassian Andor five years before the events of the film. Diego Luna will be seen as the title character and will also be the executive producer of the series. The stars would include Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, Fiona Shaw, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård. Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise her role as Mon Mothma, the revolutionary leader who left the Imperial Senate to build a rebel alliance. The series was announced in November 2018, and filming began in November 2020. It is scheduled to release in 2022.
Ahsoka – It is an upcoming live-action TV limited series coming up in Disney+. The series was announced in December 2020, written by Dave Filoni and produced by Jon Favreau and Dave. The series will culminate in a crossover event with Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic and The Mandalorian. Ahsoka Tano is a character in the Star Wars franchise. No plot and cast details have been shared yet. It is expected that the series will release in 2022, but no confirmation is there so far.
The Acolyte – It is an upcoming TV series, a mystery-thriller developed by Leslye Headland coming up in Disney+. Leslye will be the series producer, writer as well as showrunner. The primary series focus will be on the emergence of dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic Era and will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets. In the series, some of these storylines and characters will likely cross over. It is expected that the series will release in late 2022 or early 2023, but no confirmation is there so far.
A Droid Story – This is an upcoming animated film coming up in Disney+. The film was announced in December 2020 and will feature new characters guided by C-3PO and R2-D2. The development will be handled by Lucasfilm Animation and Industrial Light & Magic. A new hero will be introduced to be guided by the iconic droid duo on a mission known only to them. The film is in the early stages of development, and no details have been announced so far. The date of release is not clear till now.
