Naomi Osaka, a popular Japanese professional tennis player has spoken up her views and experiences about mental health difficulties. Notably, the player shared the way Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, helped her out in those tough times.
Osaka is one of the best players and is ranked first by the Women’s Tennis Association. In addition, she is the first Asian player to hold the top ranking in singles. The player has clarified that Meghan was the prominent figure to help and support her, while she was in a recent mental health break.
Earlier in June, Osaka withdrew herself from playing the French Open and took a break from tennis. at that time, she seemed to be very concerned for her mental health.
In her declarations, she shared her experiences of long bout depression and anxiety, owing to the pressures of being such a high-profile athlete.
Naomi Osaka expressed her gratitude of thanks to all those who helped her out in such tough times. She wrote, “I want to thank everyone who supported me. There are too many to name, but I want to start with my family and friends, who have been amazing.”
Further, she continued and mentioned, “There is nothing more important than those relationships. I also want to thank those in the public eye who have supported, encouraged, and offered such kind words. Michelle Obama, Michael Phelps, Steph Curry, Novak Djokovic, Meghan Markle, to name a few.”
Naomi also noted, “Lesson one: you can never please everyone. The world is as divided now as I can remember in my short 23 years. Issues that are so obvious to me at face value, like wearing a mask in a pandemic or kneeling to show support for anti-racism, are ferociously contested. So, when I said I needed to miss French Open press conferences to take care of myself mentally, I should have been prepared for what unfolded.”
